Martina, Spearmon disqualified from 200m

Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles, who ran a national record 19.82 for second, lost his Olympic 200 metres silver medal for stepping out of his lane over a United States protest early Thursday. Martina's disqualification came an hour after the original third-place finisher Wallace Spearmon was disqualified.

"Lightening" Bolt strikes twice

History was created today as Jamaica’s Usain Bolt broke the world record of the men’s 200m at the Olympics and, in the process, became the first man since Carl Lewis to win both events at the same games.  He won it in a mind boggling 19.30.

Bolt also became the first man to hold world records in both events since fellow Jamaican, Don Quarrie, did it in 1976.

Silver for Sherika Williams

Jamaica got its fifth medal of the Beijing Olympics courtesy of Sherika Williams as she produced a blistering home strech run to take the silver medal in the women's 400m.  

The event was won by Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain, the 2007 World Champion, who ran a season's best of 49.62 seconds.  Williams also ran a personal best of 49.69 seconds.  Pre-race favourite, Sanya Richards of the United States, had to settle for bronze with a time of 49.93 seconds.
