Taxpayers have just two weeks to file their Income Tax Returns before the March 15 deadline. Tax Administration Jamaica is therefore reminding all companies, self-employed persons, partners, other bodies and employed persons with additional sources of income to file their Annual Income Tax Return for 2012 and to declare their estimated income for 2013 on or before the March 15 due date.
Persons are encouraged to submit their returns before the March 15 due date to avoid the usual last minute rush at Tax Offices. As a convenient option, they may register to file and pay online from their office or home, via the Jamaica Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm, using a credit card.
Additionally, the Tax Administration is offering assistance to small business operators and self-employed individuals to prepare their tax returns, through its Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme being held at over 150 locations across the island. Persons are encouraged to take advantage of these sessions, which are being offered free. As an added benefit, employers needing assistance to prepare their Employers Annual Return (S02) due March 31 will also be able to utilise the programme.
Details of the programme schedule, which comes to an end on March 29, are available online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, or by contacting the Tax Administration Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (1-888-829-4357) or any tax office.
Business persons are reminded that failure to file income tax returns by the March 15 due date is a breach of the Income Tax Act and may lead to the tax authorities issuing an automatically generated estimated assessment, or other enforcement or court action being taken.
For further information call the Tax Administration Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) or visit the website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
