Introduced in 2002 by the Consular Corps of Jamaica, to encourage trade between Sending and Receiving States, the International Trade Expo was quickly adopted by the World Federation of Consuls as a main-feature event throughout the year, in several countries world-wide.

As the only expo in the world where Sending States are able to sell directly to Receiving States, the expo provides an ideal environment for bilateral and multilateral trade, in a considerably cost-effective manner.

The Hon. Arnold Foote OJ, Dean of the Consular Corps of Jamaica, emphasized the benefits of the expo at the event’s recent launch; “Our participation in the promotion of commercial links between the countries with diplomatic relations with Jamaica is of vital importance to us. Encouraging trade is one of the main roles of the Consul, it is our duty to our country and the countries we also have the honour to represent.”

The official opening of the International Trade Expo will take place in a closed ceremony on Sunday, October 9, where the Keynote Speaker; Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade will be addressing a gathering of Honorary Consuls, other dignitaries and members of the media. Milton Samuda, President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Bruce Bowen, President and CEO of Scotiabank Group are also expected address the gathering.

Monday evening, will feature addresses by Hon. Mike Henry MP, Minister of Transport and Works and Mrs. Sancia Templar, President of JAMPRO, along with a special presentation to personnel who work in the VIP division of the Norman Manley International Airport, in recognition of their outstanding service to the diplomatic community of Jamaica.

Starting at 9am on Tuesday Morning, Scotiabank will host a much anticipated seminar on export financing, while the closing ceremony will take place that evening at 6pm. The evening will feature a keynote speech from H.E. The Most Hon, Sir Patrick Allen, Governor General of Jamaica, along with the awarding of the coveted Governor General’s Trophy to the country with the most impressive booth. First and Second Runners up will be awarded with the Scotiabank and CCOJ trophies respectively.

Open to the public on Monday and Tuesday from 10am – 9pm at a cost of $300 per person, the event is ideal for all ages to enjoy. The ability to view products, and experience cultures from around the world in one location is a rare occurrence and is a must-do event.
