Consider This: Jamaica Civil Society Coalition To Launch Radio Show

This is the rallying cry of the Jamaica Civil Society Coalition’s (JCSC) new radio programme, Consider This, the latest strategy in their campaign for good governance.  

Consider This, which begins May 15 will provide in-depth analysis to inform public debate on development issues in the Jamaican society. The programme will be a vehicle to both inform and help trigger concrete action in the areas of concern to JCSC members including anti-corruption, transparency and accountability; human rights, economic growth, election oversight, violence reduction, peace and justice, environment and women’s empowerment.

18 Arrests In April For Electricity Theft In Manchester

At the close of the month of April closes, JPS is reporting 18 arrests for the illegal abstraction of electricity in the parish of Manchester.  The intensified campaign against theft, which has been supported by members of the security forces, has seen several operations across the parish, targeting both residences and business operations.

The latest arrests, over the course of last week, involved five persons, (including a woman), who were arrested in the Ward Avenue, Grove Road and Georges Valley communities.

Special Arrangements For Property Tax Payments Due April 30

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding persons that property tax payment for the financial year 2013-2014 is due on April 30, whether the payment is being made in full or the first instalment. Special arrangements will be made at tax offices across the island on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 to accommodate the expected increase in customers.

To facilitate the smooth operations, additional staff will be available to ensure that persons are directed to the correct lines and to process queries.  Persons without a current Property Tax Notice of Assessment or if they are not aware of their valuation number or how much is to be paid, will be directed to get a print out of their property tax obligations, both current and any outstanding amounts.
