Private-Sector Company Sponsors Psychometric Assessments for Inner-City Students

Inner City Jamaican Youth to Get Purposely AlignedMaking a positive difference in students’ educational experience, especially for at-risk children, can be accomplished by helping them feel as though they belong. This, Melody Cammock-Gayle, Co-founder of the Re-Birth Project said is one of the aims of phase two of the programme which is scheduled to resume in October 2014, after a successful first phase staging, held between March and June 2014.

“The architects of the Re-Birth Project, an intervention initiative for at-risk youth, appreciate that an effective intervention programme requires a collaborative effort of talents of students, educators’ commitment to the learning process, parents’ involvement, community members’ concern, and business leaders coming together to address and meet the needs of youth at-risk. This is why we brought Trevor Hamilton & Associates Center for Excellence (THACE) on-board. They understand the parameters needed for success,” Cammock-Gayle explained.

JPS Customers to See Decrease in Fuel and IPP Charge This Month

JPS customers will see a marginal decrease in their bills this month, as a result of a lower Fuel & Independent Power Producer (IPP) charge.

The Fuel & IPP Charge on August bills is $25.795 per kilowatt-hour, compared to $27.546 per kWh in July. This means that a residential customer, who consistently uses 165 kWh, will see a reduction of approximately 4.19 per cent in his or her bill this month. This customer’s bill will move from $6,641.88 in July to $6,363.58 in August.

New Fishing Village For Back Road, Port Henderson

The Urban Development Corporation recently shared layout designs for a new fishing village to be established at Sector M East, Port Henderson Road (Back Road), St Catherine.

This fishing village will replace the informal settlement called the Forum Fishing Village located on the Forum Beach. Occupants of this informal settlement, including fisher folk, commercial interests and residents, are required to vacate the beach in light of the UDC’s sale of the Forum Hotel in January 2014.
