Miss BirideConsolidated Bakeries Jamaica Ltd, under its Miss Birdie brand, continued its recognition of deserving groups in Jamaican society with the recent donation of 170 of their premium Miss Birdie Easter Buns to School Crossing Wardens islandwide.

Terming it as a recognition of unsung heroes, this donation mirrors last year’s recognition of members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade who aided in fighting the Riverton fire, where a donation of 276 premium Miss Birdie Easter Buns was made.


World Bank Group Provides $150 Million to Combat Zika Virus in Latin America and the Caribbean

In order to support countries in Latin America and the Caribbean affected by the Zika virus outbreak, the World Bank Group announced today that it has made US$150 million immediately available.

This amount is based on current country demands for financing and follows extensive engagement with governments across the region, including sending teams of technical experts to affected countries. If additional financing is needed, the World Bank Group stands ready to increase its support.


NCB Foundation Pays CSEC Fees for 4,041 Students Islandwide

Recipients of the NCB bursary herald their appreciation, post-presentation. They are joined by Thalia Lyn, NCB Foundation Chairman. Continuing a legacy of nation building the NCB Foundation electronically handed over more than $11 million dollars to the Overseas Examination Council (OEC) as payment for CSEC Principles of Accounts (POA) and Principles of Business (POB) examinations. The presentation was recently held at the Alpha Academy School, which has the largest number of students benefiting from the investment.

The donation marks the Foundation’s 12th year supplying the national bursary which allows students with an average exceeding 70%, to sit CSEC POA and POB examinations free of cost. This year’s subsidy will benefit 4,041 students in secondary schools island-wide.
