Captain Gayle Wants Improvement To Continue

West Indies captain Chris Gayle said after his team’s victory in the 1st Digicel Test in Jamaica more than a month ago that any talk of “turning the corner” would have to be left until the conclusion of the Digicel Test Series 2009.

There were more murmurs of corner-turning as the imposing skipper held aloft the Wisden Trophy at the Queen’s Park Oval following his team’s fighting draw on Tuesday. That result secured a 1-0 success, the first series victory for the Caribbean side since June, 2004.

Nash Century Reward For Hard Work

ImageBrenden Nash’s maiden Test century on day four of the 5th Digicel Test against England was the culmination of a long road of travel and tough grind for the Australian-born West Indies left-hander.

“It’s been many years of hard work,” the 31-year-old Nash said after play. “To finally get the opportunity to be there on 98 and 99 was very nervous but I finally got there in the end so I was pretty happy with that obviously.”

US Track & Field Wants A Pair Of Dual Meets With Jamaica

USA Track & Field this week proposed that the world's two sprinting powerhouses challenge each other in a unique, dual-meet format that could see some of track and field's superstars match up like never before.
 
USATF has formally invited Jamaica to engage in a home-and-home series in 2009 that that will pit the two nations' sprinters and hurdlers against each other in head-to-head, team-scored competition.

Jamaican Team Attend Madrid Road Safety Forum

Michael Henry, Ministry of Transport and Works, the National Road Safety Council’s Vice Chairman, Dr Lucien Jones, Executive Director, Paula Fletcher and Council co-sponsor, Earl Jarrett, recently returned from the first High Level Ibero-American Road Safety Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean (EISEVI).  The seminar, themed, ‘Protecting Lives”, was held in Madrid Spain between 23 and 24 February 2009.
