Yesterday, the Government of Jamaica announced that it will accept and settle submissions in excess of 97 percent of bonds eligible for the NDX, which was announced on February 12, 2013.

Electricity Thieves Get Jail Time

Energy Company JPS is reporting that its intensified campaign against electricity theft with the support of several members of the Constabulary Force, has resulted in the arrest of 38 persons since the start of the year.  Of that number, six (including a woman) have been sentenced to prison time, some, for a number of months.

Hon. Roger Clarke Approves Of CB's Pilot Project To Grow Sorghum As Substitute For Corn

A Lesson on SorghumCaribbean Broilers (CB) Group of Companies’ plan to grow sorghum as a corn substitute for animal feeds is a much anticipated project by the Ministry of Agriculture. The Company hopes that this initial300-acre investment will prove profitable enough to justify planting the grain on a larger scale – thereby reducing the importation bill for corn, whilst providing jobs and helping farmers save on the price of feeds. A ‘win-win’ situation.

Sorghum is the fifth most important cereal crop grown in the world. It is a genus of numerous species of grasses, some of which are raised for grain production and used as fodder plants. Thus, either cultivated or as part of pasture, it is grown widely in developing countries.Particularly in Africa and Asia it is used for both plant and human foods. It is amongst the most efficient crops in the conversion of solar energy and use of water. Sorghum is known as a high-energy, drought and heat-resistant crop.

True Blue Weekend on March 16th, 2013 will feature the 1st Annual True Blue 6v6 Over-40 Soccer Tournament sponsored by LIME. The tournament will be an excellent venue for Jamaican South Florida Alumni Associations to showcase their Over-40 soccer talent.  LIME is the proud sponsor of the inaugural tournament. Participating schools will have the opportunity to win a $400 cash cash prize  donation for their alumni association provided by LIME.

The 9th Annual True Blue Weekend will take place March 15th-17th, 2013. The 3-day event is hosted by The St. George's College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc. (STGCOBAFL) and The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida, Inc. (JCOBAFL).
