Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) wishes to advise motorists that effective November 1, 2017 cashier services will NO longer be offered at the Swallowfield Examination Depot. The on-site payment facility now available at the Swallowfield Road location is being terminated as the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) rolls out its new electronic certification system and TAJ’s online payment facility now being in place.

With the introduction of TAJ Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Fees online payment, in September motorists now have the option of paying online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

The process for the added service involves taxpayers logging into the TAJ payment portal using their client login or creating an account (where applicable). They may click on the ‘Pay Your Motor Vehicle Fees’ tab or select the ‘Motor Vehicle fees ‘option under ‘Pay Other Taxes and Fees’ and choose the option for their vehicle type. A Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and Branch Number (where applicable) and the use of a valid credit card are required to complete the transaction. Once an online payment is made motorists must use the reference number at any ITA location that has implemented the electronic motor vehicle certification system.

The introduction of Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Fees online payment makes it easier and convenient for customers to purchase their fitness receipts. This underscores Tax Administration’s continued strategic improvements of its systems, to provide value added services that are secure and user friendly as outlined in TAJ’s Strategic Plan. The new online offering also complements the implementation of the Island Traffic Authority’s new electronic system. One of the aims of the electronic motor vehicle certification system is to eliminate the transcription errors which arose from the issuance of handwritten Certificates of Fitness.

For further information persons may contact the Tax Administration’s Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) toll-free or visit the ‘Pay Motor Vehicle Fees’ hub on our website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
