Asafa Powell ran the second-fastest 100 meters in history today at the Athletissima Grand Prix meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland.
"After all my problems this year I'm satisfied with my performance tonight," Powell said, after racing away from a strong field comprising all of the Beijing finalists except for Bolt. "It's also great to set a new personal record." Fellow Jamaican, Usain Bolt, had run 9.72 for a new world record at the New York Grand Prix earlier this year and then further lowered it to 9.69 at the Olympic Games in Beijing last month. Powell finished fifth in that race. Another highlight of the Lausanne meeting was Bolt easily winning the 200 metres race in 19.63 seconds.
