Dancehall bad boy Mavado, has finally been granted a visa to travel to the United States.  News surfaced in April of this year that his visa was cancelled following his arrest for gun related charges.  However, the charges were subsequently dropped and Mavado has once again been cleared to travel to the US.

His first gig on American soil will be at the annual Irie Jamboree concert scheduled for the Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York on Sunday, Auguest 31st, 2008.

According to a press release from the event's organizers, New Yorkers are eagerly anticipating the sing-jay's return.

"We are extremely excited to have confirmed, the hottest dancehall artiste in the business, Mavado as one of the headline performers at Irie Jamboree 2008, North America's premier reggae festival. This is Mavado's first performance in the USA in more than one year. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his return and we feel confident that he will deliver a memorable performance for his fans in New York."

Mavado (born David Constantine Brooks) in 1981 gave the world the critically acclaimed debut album Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, which includes hit singles "Fathers Prayer", "Cassava Piece Radio", "Sadness", "Gully Side", and "On The Go (Faster Than Bullet)  which was dedicated to Olympic Gold medal winner Asafa Powell.

His song, "On the Rock", was also re-mixed with a verse by hip hop impresario, Jay-Z, and was added to the rotation on New York's WQHT (Hot 97).  He however wasn't able to fully capitalize on the popularity of the song due to his legal troubles.
