Usain Bolt continued his winning ways on Friday night by winning the 100m at the ÅF Golden League meeting in Weltklasse, Zürich.

The golden boy from the Beijing Olympics had the slowest start of the nine athletes but when he finally unfurled his tall frame, powered through to win in a time of 9.83 seconds.  His winning time left some disappointed as he was at least expected to break compatriot Asafa Powell’s meet record of 9.77 seconds.

"My start was not too good," admitted Bolt. "I concentrated on winning and as I'm starting to get a cold I was not able to think about a faster time."

American Walter Dix, 9.99, and Trinidadian Richard Thompson, 10.09, were second and third respectively.  Michael Frater of Jamaica was sixth in 10.15 seconds.

Danny McFarlane came in one better than he did at the Olympics by finishing third in the men's 400m hurdles.   Winning the event was Olympic champion, Angelo Taylor in 48.07 seconds.  Another American, Kerron Clement, was second in 48.20.  McFarlane was timed in 48.40.  The other Jamaican's in the race, Isa Phillips (48.99) and Markino Buckley (49.44), finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Lolo Jones made up for her Olympic disappointment by winning the 100m hurdles event in 12.56 seconds.  Josephine Onyia of Spain was second in 12.62 and Autralian Sally McLellan was third, 0ne hundredth of a second behind.  Jamaica's two representatives in the race finished down the track in fourth and eighth.  Delloreen Ennis-London stopped the clock at 12.68 while Bridgette Foster-Hylton was timed at 13.17.

Jamaica also had three representatives in the women's 400m race.  Only one managed to make the podium however.  Novlene Williams-Mills, who dropped out at the semifinal stage at the Beijing games, finished third in 50.78 seconds.  Jamaican-born American, Sany Richards, who clocked a season’s best of 49.74, won the race.  Second place went to the Russian Tatyana Firova in 50.70.  Olympic silver medallist, Shericka Williams, finished fourth in 51.28 while national champion Rosemarie Whyte, 51.73, finished sixth.

Pamela Jelimo remained in the hunt for the Golden League jackpot after running 1:54.01 for an area record, meet record and world junior record in the women's 800m.  Jamaica's Kenia Sinclair was leading after 400m but faded badly and finished in eighth place with a time of 2:03.45 seconds.  Second in the race was Maryam Jamal of Bahrain, 1:57.80 and Janeth Jepkosgei was third in 1:58.26.  Maria Mutola, running in her final 800m, was fourth.

Cuban 110m world record holder, Dayron Robles, was pushed to the tape by American, David Oliver.  Robles clocked 12.97 seconds and out leaned the American who was timed at 12.98.  Jamaican Richard Phillips could only manage seventh with a time of 13.60 seconds.
