ImageOn August 16, Brittany Lyons beat out 15 other contestants to become Miss Jamaica World 2008.  She succeeds Yendi Phillips to the throne.

Lyons had a pedigree for the contest as her mother, Marie-Claire Lyons, was a runner-up in the 1980 contest won by Michelle Harris.

The University College of the Caribbean student is an all-rounded young lady as she has won medals in both swimming and water polo. She is also an artist and loves designing.

Her goal is to become a Fashion Marketing Manager and create her own clothing line.

The First Runner-Up was Jade Grant and the Second Runner-Up was Marshagay Reynolds.

The 19-year old beauty, who also copped the 'Beach Beauty' award, said she was surprised about her win.

"I am just really and truly couldn't believe, I thought they were wrong when they announced it, I am just so overwhelmed," she said.

Lyons says Phillips is a role model that she wishes to emulate as she yearns to work with children. She commented, "I want to make as many positive changes as possible, following in Yendi's footsteps.  She's someone I've known a long time."

The St. Andrew resident will represent Jamaica at the Miss World 2008 contest later this year.
