Asafa Powell, the previous 100m world record holder from Jamaica, will top the bill at the Aviva British grand Prix at Gateshead this weekend. He will be competing in the men's 100m alongside compatriot and MVP club mate, Nesta Carter. Carter was a part of the record breaking 4x100m relay team at the Beijing Olympics. American champion, Tyson Gay, is expected to face the starter for the men's 200m. He will be up against Wallace Spearmon, who lost his medal through disqulification at the Beijing games. Also in that race will be Brendan Christian of Antingua and Brian Dzingai of Zimbabwe. Two of Jamaica's female stars will also be competing. Olympic gold 100m gold medallist will go head-to-head with joint-silver medallist, Sherone Simpson over the shorter distance. They will once again be challenged by the Americans, namely, Marshevet Hooker and Lauryn Williams. Olympic 400m silver medallist, Sherika Williams, will compete in the women's 200m alongside Allyson Felix while Markino Buckley, fresh off two personal bests in the 400m hurdles at the Beijing games, will also compete.
