Jamaica set a new world record in the men's 4x100 metre relay on Day 14 at the Beijing Olympics.
Asafa Powell ran a scortching anchor leg to put Jamaica across the finish line in 37.10 seconds - 0.3 seconds faster the the previous world's best.
Nesta Carter ran the first leg and handed off to individual 100m finalist, Michael Frater. After Frater's leg, Jamaica had a slight lead, but Bolt blew the race wide open. He yelled as he completed a smooth baton change to Asafa Powell, who looked to make up for his individual disappointment, and Jamaica stormed home almost a full second ahead of second placed Trinidad.
It was the first Olympic gold medal in the event for Jamaica but the second time the tiny island was owning the record.
"It's wonderful," Bolt said. "You can't explain the feeling you feel after the greatest Olympics ever."
And indeed it was...well, maybe the Americans might think differently. This win solidified Jamaica's position as the new sprinting powerhouse of the world and Usain Bolt as the supreme athlete.
Bolt became the first sprinter to set three world records in the same Olympics. That's never happened before.
Bolt also became the first since Carl Lewis at the Los Angeles Games in 1984 to win all three Olympic sprint events.
Jamaica's also marked Powell's first major gold medal (albeit a team effort) after years of underperforming at big meets.
No one was going to catch the former world record holder today. Powell's run seemed to have surpassed his magnificent finish at last year's Osaka World Championships where he took Jamaica from sixth to second. Only this time, the only thing he had to beat was the clock.
"I pushed myself to help Usain and his quest for three gold medals," Powell said.
When the race ended, Bolt and Powell jumped and chested each other, and along with Frater and Carter, celebrated their phenominal run to the sound of some familiar reggae music.
