John Fahey, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA),  has revealed that extensive drug testing was done in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean in the months leading up to the Beijing Olympics.

"There's been a number of comments made to me while I was in Beijing about the superiority of the Caribbean speed athletes, and that's been demonstrated each night when we look at track and field on our television screen," he said.

"There was significant testing done in the Caribbean in the months leading up to the Games."

Mr. Fahey said that the samples will be held and tested repeatedly over the next few years as the technology improves to ascertain if there were drug cheats at the Beijing games.

"I think I'll be watching the next eight years because all of the blood samples that have been taken will be held by the IOC I think in a laboratory in Lausanne in Switzerland for the next eight years," he said.

"They're capable of being used again for further testing, when technology or science allows that to occur."

Jamaica last night completed a clean sweep of the individual sprint events and are clear favourites to win both 4x100m races following the disqualification of the United States.
