Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles, who ran a national record 19.82 for second, lost his Olympic 200 metres silver medal for stepping out of his lane over a United States protest early Thursday. Martina's disqualification came an hour after the original third-place finisher Wallace Spearmon was disqualified. Usain Bolt completed a sprint double with a golden world record run of 19.30 seconds. Shawn Crawford, 19.96, was bumped up from originally fourth to silver and another American, Walter Dix, got bronze after being fifth on the line. Spearmon, who ran 19.95, was disqualified quickly after the race. The US protested in vain, the ruling body IAAF said, and after accepting Spearmon's disqualification lodged a protest of their own against Martina for also stepping out of his lane. This protest was granted by race officials.
