The official opening ceremony for the Games of the 29th Olympiad in Beijing, China is set to start just after 7am, Jamaica time.  Defending 200m gold medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown, has been selected to march with the country's flag.  Maurice Smith, decathlon silver medallist from last year's world championships, was elected captain.

205 countries are expected to be a part of the ceremony inside China's national Bird's Nest Stadium, which has a capacity of 91,000 spectators.

The first competing Jamaican will be Samantha Albert in the equestrian events. She will compete in day one of the three-day competition.

Meanwhile, swimmers Alia Atkinson and Jevon Atkinson will be in competition on Wednesday in the 50 meter freestyle 200 meter breaststroke. The third swimmer, Natasha Moodie, will make her splash on Friday in the 50 meter freestyle.

Meanwhile, Ludlow Watts, manager of Jamaica's track & field team, in an interview with the Jamaica Observer, said that team spirit is high in the track & field training camp in Tianjin.

"As we speak, I'm at the training facility where we are having baton exchanges at the moment," he said, noting that things are back to normal after Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Shelly-Ann Fraser refused to run at full blast in relay practice on Sunday.

"We had a discussion and they... gave a commitment to co-operate fully, and they've done so since," Watts explained. Head of delegation Anderson said it was not unusual that all parties don't get along on trips like this, given the differences in personalities.

The track and field events are set to start on August 15 where Jamaica is expected to garner its best ever medal haul.
