After months of speculation, it has finally been revealed that Usain Bolt will compete in the 100m at the Beijing Olympics. “I can confirm that Usain will run both the 100m and 200m in Beijing," Bolt's agent, Ricky Simms, wrote in a text message to The Associated Press on Saturday. The 6’ 5” phenom, who set a new 100m world record of 9.72 seconds on May 31, had repeatedly said he would leave the decision up to his coach, Glen Mills. Bolt will now be attempting to do something that no one has done since the 1984 Olympics – win the sprint double. "Coach Mills today confirmed that I will run the 100m and 200m in the Olympic Games," said Bolt. "I am feeling good and look forward to running well in both events." This decision has excited track fans worldwide and has made the men’s 100m the highlight event of the Olympics as it features the three fastest men ever over the distance. Tyson Gay, the American champion and double sprint champion from the Osaka World Championship and former world-record holder, Asafa Powell will match strides with bolt in a race some expect will yield the first legal 9.6+ mark.
