Jamaica is set to receive a shipment of donkeys from the Turks and Caicos as part of that country's plan to reduce traffic accidents and nuisance to developers.

About 100 donkeys will be donated to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands for agricultural purposes contrary to press reports that the asses were to be annihilated.

An official with the Ministry of Health and Human Services said donkeys previously have been airlifted to other islands after the local salt industry waned in the 1960's. Workers used donkeys to carry salt but later left them to run wild which resulted in a population boom.
