World 100m record holder, Usain Bolt, lowered the Jamaican national 200m record on Sunday in Athens at the Tsiklitiria Athens Grand Prix.  His winning time of 19.67 seconds (wind -0.5 m/s) is also a world leading time for 2008.

Bolt is now the fifth fastest man of all time in the 200 behind Michael Johnson (19.32), Tyson Gay (19.62), Xavier Carter (19.63) and Wallace Spearmon (19.65).

When asked about his performance, Bolt said he was "very satisfied" with his performance. "I feel sure I will be very strong at the Olympic Games."  Bolt added.

The 6' 5" sprinter finished almost 0.7 seconds ahead of Brendan Christian of Antigua in second place with a time of 20.36.  Brian Dzingai, 20.45, of Zimbabwe was third.

His previous best of 19.75 was set in Kingston, Jamaica last year.

In the women's 100, Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica won in 10.92 to equal the meet record set in 1999.  Bahamian veteran, Chandra Sturrup (11.14) was second and American, Angella Williams (11.15) was third.

"I'm satisfied with my race," said Campbell-Brown, the 200 Olympic champion. "I train very hard and I hope to stay healthy in order to achieve my goal in Beijing. I adore Athens, I run my best races here."

Campbell-Brown failed to qualify for the individual 100m at the Olympics after finishing fourth in the Jamaican trials with a time of 10.88 seconds.

In the men's 100m, Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas won in 10.10, finishing ahead of Darvis Patton and Mark Jelks of the United States.

Meanwhile, Jamaican-born Sanya Richards of the United States won the women's 400m easily in 49.86 seconds.   Second was Novlene Williams-Mills with 50.51 ahead of third place Mary Wineberg who finished in 50.78.  Another Jamaican, Sheerefa Lloyd, was fourth in 50.89 seconds.

Danny McFarlane stopped the clock at 48.67 seconds to finish second behind South African, L.J van Zyl in 48.22.   Reuben McCoy of the United States was third with a time of 48.78.

In the women's 800m, Jamaica had another podium finish, as Kenia Sinclair finished third in 1:59.84.  Winning the two-lap event was Cuban, Zulia Calatayud, 1:59.26 while Élodie Guégan (1:59.68) of France was third.

James Beckford finished ninth in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.73 meters.  Winning the event was Loúis Tsátoumas of Greece who sailed to 8.44 meters.
