Nickel Ashmeade earned Jamaica its second medal of World Junior Championships on Friday as he placed second in the men's 200m final. The World Youth 200m bronze medallist held the lead up to 190m but couldn't hold off a fast finishing Christophe Lemaitre of France won the race in a personal best, 20.83 seconds. Ashmeade ended with a time of 20.85 seconds while Germany's Robert Hering took the bronze. In the women's equivalent, Sheniqua Ferguson of the Bahamas claimed the title. She won with a time of of 23.24 seconds, outpacing Meritzer Williams of Saint Kitts and Nevis (23.40) and Janelle Redhead of Grenada (23.52). Jura Levy of Jamaica finished eighth. Jamaica now has two medals following Dexter Lee's golden run in the men's 100m.
