The Caribbean's emerging film and TV production industry is set to be on display again at the third Flashpoint Film Festival to be held between Thursday, June 5 – Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Fort Charles and the Historic Naval Hospital in Port Royal.

This year's event takes place on the anniversary of the catastrophic Port Royal earthquake of June 6, 1692 and commemorates the life and work of festival founder, Greer-Ann Saulter and legendary film maker Perry Henzell.

Local film and TV professionals have the chance to meet international film industry professionals, and be kept up to date on developments in the global film industry.

Festival goers can expect to participate in a host of activities including the film premier of three Jamaican feature films, mobile movies in the Port Royal Public Square with Mutabaruka, original sound tracks featuring legendary music video producer Jay Will, a star-studded film line-up with budding actors Everaldo Creary, Sheldon Shepherd, and super model Nicole Grey, and other on screen appearances from old favourites like Rohan Daley, Ragashanti, and the Godfathers of Jamaican performance art, Oliver Samuels and Charles Hyatt.

Already creating a buzz are "Candy Shop" and "Better Mus' Come", two of the films to be featured at the festival.

"Candy Shop" is a teen comedy produced by Joel Burke. It is the 29-year-old's first feature length film. It showcases the plight of three high school students who plan to celebrate their last day of high school by enjoying the amenities of an upscale gentleman's club. The events that unfold are riotous and see the boys biting off more than they can chew.

"Candy Shop" is set to premiere at Flashpoint on Friday, June 6.

"Better Mus' Come" is a politically charged film based on true events and set against the backdrop of the tumultuous period of the 1970's in Jamaica.  The movie follows Ricky (Sheldon Shepherd), a leader of a politically affiliated gang based in the southside slums of Kingston. The story charts his journey to an event that was inspired by the Green Bay Massacre.  It is directed by 'Storm' Saulter.

Flashpoint has partnered with the local community to encourage festival patrons to support the Port Royal restaurants and vendors. The surrounding business owners will give festival goers an authentic Port Royal experience.

From "The Harder They Come" to "Shottas", Jamaican film makers have produced several good movies and promise more.  If you want to see the island's creative genius at work, come out and support the region’s preeminent festival for independent films and see the Caribbean's visual revolution unfold.
