Police say a German hotelier has been found stabbed to death in Portland.

Cpl. Claudette Baugh says a motorist discovered the body of 61-year-old Helmut Steiner early Friday along Spring Bank Road near his hotel in the Port Antonio.  Steiner's throat was slashed and he was stabbed several times.

President of the Portland chapter of the JHTA, Vincent Holgate, expressed shock and regret at the loss of one of the Association's valued members and said it was even more shocking that the incident had occurred in such a peaceful place as Portland.

According to Holgate,  Steiner lived in Jamaica for about 30 years and operated the upscale Jamaica Heights guesthouse for at least half that time.

The police have  not yet established a motive for the killing but are following a number of leads.
