18 people were killed between Saturday and Sunday in what was a bloody weekend for Jamaica. Six were killed yesterday, including a one year-old baby girl from the war-torn inner city community of August Town, St Andrew. The infant, who was shot and killed with an unidentified man from the community, had not been identified up to last night. The two, residents say, were killed along August Town Road by heavily armed men, who invaded the community. There has been a recent upsurge in gang warfare that has resulted in several deaths. Also killed on Sunday were Jeffery 'Scalla' Downer, 19, who was shot by unknown assailants in Falmouth Garden in Trelwany and 34-year-old truck driver Gary 'Jeff' Matthews, who was shot and killed at his gate along School Lane, Sucabba Pen, Old Harbour by men with whom he was seen having a conversation. Downer's body was found just after daybreak with a .380 semi-automatic pistol with five cartridges in his waistband. Monique Solomon, 16, and Richard Thompson, 37, were the others killed on Saturday in what residents say is the result of an ongoing turf war between men from 83 Lane and a group of men, calling themselves Gully Rat, who live along the nearby gully bank leading to the Tarrant High School. It is alleged that a group of armed men from the gully bank invaded the 83 Lane community off the Waltham Park Road in Kingston. The attackers made their escape in a white Toyota motorcar, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported. Sunday was relatively calm however, when compare to Saturday when 12 persons were murdered. In the wee hours of Saturday morning, about an hour after midnight, three men were killed on Retreat Drive, St. Andrew. One of the dead men has been identified as 25-year-old Eric Antonio Davis of Belvedere, Red Hills. The other two men, one in his early 20's and the other about 60-years-old, are yet to be identified. According to police, residents of Retreat Drive reported hearing explosions after which they called the police. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found Davis slumped over the steering wheel of a crashed Toyota Camry motor car with the younger of the two men beside him. A search of the area found the older man along the roadway. Blondel 'Delton' Forrest, 48, of Grange Hill, Westmoreland, was shot and killed on Saturday after he allegedly attacked a member of a police party with a machete in Camp Savannah Mountain in the parish. Forrest reportedly attacked the officer who intervened in a domestic dispute in which the deceased was earlier involved, according to the CCN. In Bay Shore Park, Kingston, the bodies of two unidentified males were discovered by residents who heard several explosions. They called police who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to commence investigations. Suzette 'Melanie' McIntosh, 27, was shot at Windsor Road in St. Catherine on Saturday. She was discovered by the police in her house around 12:45pm, suffering from gunshot wounds. She died at the Spanish Town Hospital while undergoing treatment. St. Elizabeth recorded two murders for the day, namely, 31-year-old taxi operator, Raymond 'Joe Grind' Morris, of Carisbrook district in St Elizabeth, and Ricardo 'Tommy' Taylor, 31, of Round Hill also in the parish. Morris was stabbed at a wake during an argument with another man, the CCN said while Taylor's bullet-riddled body was discovered along the Fullerswood main road in the parish. Investigators are seeking Kenton Thompson also known as "Nubbie" of Mahoe district in connection with Morris' death. Nineteen year-old Omar 'Chally' Francis, of North Avenue, Kingston 13, was shot and killed by a group of men in his community about 6:35pm. Carla Hudson, 39, a vendor of Gold Street, Central Kingston, was found dead along Rosemarie Lane in the area after several explosions were heard.
