THE prime suspect wanted over the murder of former Leeds nurse Barbara Scott Jones has been arrested.

Labourer Omar Reid, 30, was due to be questioned after being arrested on Wednesday night following a massive police hunt.

The body of Ms Scott Jones, 61, was discovered in a pit in the backyard of her Jamaican home on Good Friday - March 21.

She had suffered several wounds to her head, broken teeth and nose and a fractured skull.

Her son Brandon Jones, 37, of Wakefield, flew out to the Caribbean island along with sister Suzie, 33, on Sunday March 23.

The family returned to the UK this week and say they are focusing on organising a private funeral for their mother.

Mr Jones told the YEP: "We have had communication from the police about the arrest. I have got nothing really to add to what the police are saying.

"We are all back here now and we are concentrating on arranging the funeral. We are obviously still grieving."

Ms Scott Jones "absolutely loved Jamaica" and had virtually settled there in recent years after her divorce from Mr Jones's father.

However she had recently been thinking of returning to England permanently to her family and was refurbishing her Jamaican house to rent it out as a holiday home.

Reid, who was helping Ms Scott Jones renovate her villa on the island, had not been seen since the former Leeds General Infirmary midwife went missing on March 14.

Ms Scott Jones had been scheduled to return to England on April 1.

Reid was the only suspect in the case and was finally caught shortly after 11pm on Wednesday in the hills of St. James

Commanding Officer Superintendent Steve McGregor said: "This operation was done efficiently without anyone being injured.

"My divisional intelligence unit did a really good job and we have this man in custody now, who is the largest part of the puzzle. We're hoping that in a short time we will bring closure to this incident."
