You know what’s funny? As soon as a homosexual themed movie or a homosexual artist is in the news or on the airwaves, people start calling for boycotts. You hear people saying that Jamaicans don’t support nastiness and we don’t want Hollywood and Rome to corrupt the minds of our youth. You hear people quoting the Bible saying Jamaica is a God blessed place. It’s funny that a homosexual message can change people’s attitudes and actions but a violent message can’t. Wake up people. That doesn’t make any sense. Just because Mavado or Vybz Kartel grew up in the violence of the ghetto, doesn’t mean that they need to glorify it. Sure they can sing about the consequences of the gun without the glamourization. But the glamourization is what’s happening. Everybody wants to be an outlaw. Let a kid from America, who grew up with the KKK, sing about lynching a nigger and see how fast he gets vilified. It’s his experience though. That’s what he lived and saw. Every one with common sense and the smallest amount of morals knows that his message would be wrong so quit with the double standards and the lame reasoning about how dancehall is inherently violent and boycott the negative messages emanating from the mouths of these artists. They are talented enough to sing some better songs man. Sure the violence didn’t start with dancehall and it’s not going to end with dancehall. Sure politicians played their part by supplying guns but artists support shottas too. If there weren’t any guns in Jamaica, there’d still be hundreds of murders. Remember the study done in 2005. Over a six year period, fifty-one per cent of the injury-related cases in hospitals were caused by stabbings and 22 per cent by firearm. What Jamaican need is a prolong dose of positivity along with some education and stop with the useless hype. 2/3rd’s of people in Africa don’t have a toilet. Send some money over there and stop fattening the pockets of Italian designers and wasting time trying to prove who is the baddest idiot.
