Those lyrics were some of the first thoughts that came into my head after seeing the latest video of high school sex in Jamaica.  I didn’t get upset like some.  Instead I felt a feeling of sadness stemming from seeing another young girl being taken advantage of by a young boy who doesn’t seem to have a real man influencing him in any positive way.  The fact of the matter is that that young girl doesn’t seem to have a good male role model at home either.

Over the past four years of raising my daughter, it has become obvious to me that little girls need their fathers to be their everything.  They look to their fathers for love, for approval, for support and for companionship.  In the absence of this, they almost always tend to look to the next best option, which often is the worst option.  Because fathers don’t show their daughters what to expect from boys and men, they invariably accept anything and in the process get deemed as being loose and “skettelish”.  

So fathers, be good to your daughters.  Treat them with love and respect.  Take them on dates.  Listen to their worries.  Treat them like the little princesses that they are while maintaining strict discipline.  If you play your role, you can be almost sure that your daughter isn’t going to become that young girl on the steps at that high school.
