The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) recently kicked off this year’s calendar of exciting events, with mobile operator Digicel onboard as lead sponsor. Digicel has pledged some $12 million to support the JCDC events and will be on hand to add to the excitement with prizes and other entertainment.

“Digicel has been a proud sponsor of the JCDC for several years,” says Head of Marketing Wayne Miller. “Preservation of Jamaica’s culture and practices is very important, and Digicel is committed to ensuring that our rich heritage is maintained and passed on to future generations.”

The 2009 calendar of events includes the National Performing Arts, Jamaica Festival, Jamaica Gospel Song Competition, Miss Jamaica Festival Queen, Jamaica Festival Song Competition, National Visual Arts Exhibition, Mello go Round, August Fair and Culinary arts Expo, National Emancipation Vigil, Independence Thanksgiving, World Reggae dance Competition and Independence Day gala and Street Dance.

“We’re very happy with this partnership,” says JCDC Public Relations Executive Daniel Hopkins. “We have definitely seen an improvement in the support of the general public since Digicel signed on as a sponsor of the events a few years ago, and we are looking forward to a thrilling season.”
