Seventeen dialysis machines will be officially commissioned into service at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) by Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer on Wednesday (June 10).

The machines were provided through the joint effort of the National Health Fund (NHF), the CHASE Fund and the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA).

The total cost of the machines is $US386,000. Of this amount, the NHF contributed $US314,000, and the balance was provided by SERHA. The CHASE Fund has provided $US30,000 towards the maintenance of the 17 machines over a three-year period.

The 17 machines will replace the 15 units previously being used at the hospital, which have been taken out of service as they are no longer functional.

Mr. Spencer says the acquisition of these machines will provide improved and well needed service to kidney patients, to ensure that they enjoy a better quality of health.

Among the 17 units are two portable machines and a reprocessing system.
