Jamaica, who are the bottom of their four team CONCACAF qualifying zone, will try to turn their fortunes around when they play Honduras tomorrow at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano at 8:30 p.m. Jamaica time.
The Reggae Boyz have only one point from two games and have conceeded four goals while scoring one. Coach Rene Simoes says this is a game that the team cannot afford to lose.
"More than tactics and format, it is the fight that we put in today that will matter," Simoes said. "We cannot lose the game."
The Jamaicans have a lot to improve on as the performance of some of the players in the game against Mexico was horrendous. Simoes was not satisfied with the performance of the players and pointed to the fact that the first shot on goal was Ricardo Fuller's attempt near half.
The coach has promised however, that the fans will see a much improved Reggae Boyz in this upcoming match.
"The performance of some of the players (against Mexico) was awful, but against Honduras it will be different," Simoes told the Jamaica Observer. "I told the players to be cool, and let's learn from our mistakes and correct them."
Meanwhile, there are a few injury worries in the Jamaican camp. Ian 'Pepe' Goodison is suffering from a right leg injury, and captain Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner is recovering from an adductor muscle (groin) strain. They were both rested from training and, according to team doctor Dr. Charlie Roberts, have been responding well to treatment and should be ready for the Honduras match.
