Jamaican woman wins $25m Canadian lottery |

Beverly Palmer, a Jamaican immigrant to Scarborough, Canada, has been without a job since February 2008. She had to wonder how the next month's bills were going to be paid. Well, today she has to wonder no more as she was the sole winner of the June 18 draw of the $25 Million LOTTO 6/49 Jackpot.
Initially, Palmer thought she had won $250,000 after checking her ticket at a self scanner. "There were so many zeros that I lost track!" She called her brother with excitement, and he told her that there was only one winner for the $25 Million Jackpot. At that moment she exclaimed, "That must be me!"

Amnesty International on Wednesday challenged world leaders to apologize for six decades of human rights failure and re-commit themselves to deliver concrete improvements. “The human rights flashpoints in Darfur, Zimbabwe, Gaza, Iraq and Myanmar demand immediate action,” said Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International, launching AI Report 2008: State of the World’s Human Rights.

Police from Medford, Oregon say someone burned a cross and the letters KKK into the lawn of a man from Jamaica. According to the police, Sol White went outside her house late Monday night and saw the burning cross on her lawn. She called the police there after. Her husband is a Jamaican black man. She says she has never encountered such racism. The letters stand for the Ku Klux Klan.

Gambian president threatens to behead gays |

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has threatened to behead gays unless they leave the country, according to reports yesterday. He gave gays and criminals an ultimatum to leave the country. "Foreigners are cordially welcomed in The Gambia, but not bad elements," he said at a rally outside Banjul, Gambia's capital.

Super cow, Chilli, weighs 1.25 tons, is a gigantic 6ft 6in at the shoulder and makes most horses look like ponies. He is just as tall as a small elephant and could provide enough steaks to feed an army. The animals owners think the black and white Friesian steer might just be the tallest bovine in the UK.
