 On January 1, 2010, five lucky Jamaican Digicel customers were given what they described as “the best New Year’s gift”, when they were contacted by Digicel Customer Care agents advising them that they were one of five winners of $1,000,000 each in the Digicel $5 Million Promotion. Nadine Miller and Mikhail Latty from St. Catherine; Martin Garwood, St. Ann; Verona Moss, St. James; and Tessea Dodd from Westmoreland unanimously expressed are how happy they were to be among the winners. Usain Bolt and Yelena Isinbayeva have done it again. The Jamaican sprinter and Russian pole vaulter have taken the top individual awards in the annual Athletes of the Year poll organised by AIPS, the international sports media association.
The 23-year-old Bolt maintained the pre-eminence he had taken at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 by shattering both his 100 and 200 metre world records at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin last August. Bolt ran 9.58sec in the 100m and 19.19sec in the 200m and helped set a third world record in the 4x100m relay in 37.10sec.
