"Design Caribbean 2011" Declared A Resounding Success

Declared a resounding success, Caribbean Export officially ended its inaugural trade fair, Design Caribbean, at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Held at Hotel El Embajador, Santo Domingo, the show was declared a huge success in highlighting the Caribbean Region's best artisans.  Officially opened four days earlier, on September 1, 2011, with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Dominican Republic's First Lady, Dr. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández.  Excitement and momentum continued over entire show.

Jamaica’s Cuisine Takes The Spotlight At The 9th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in Florida

ImageJamaica’s renowned cuisine will take center stage at the Ninth Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival on Sunday, November 14 at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. The event, dubbed the largest Caribbean food festival in the U.S., will feature a variety of Jamaican jerk-style culinary offerings, cooking demonstrations, performers, arts and crafts vendors and more.

“We’re always excited to share the island’s vibrant culture and allow South Floridians to savor Jamaica’s delectable cuisine,” said John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “With Restaurant Week, one of Jamaica’s premier culinary events, underway November 13-20, this is a great way to whet appetites and entice travelers to explore the destination, which is just over an hour away.”

What was deemed impossible has now been accomplished.  A new piece of software can modify the individual notes of a recorded chord.  Peter Neubäcker, a former German guitar maker turned programmer, has unveiled the software called Direct Note Access.  His company, Celemony Software,  demonstrated the capabilites of the program last month.  Users of the program will, for the first time, be able to analyze the digitized sounds of guitar or piano chords, or even multi-instrument recordings, and then extract and modify individual notes.

Previous to this piece of software, studio engineers, with the help of programs like Melodyne, also from Celemony Software and Auto-Tune , were able to change their pitch and edit individual notes in polyphonic audio material.  But teasing apart notes recorded simultaneously, as in a six-string guitar chord, has never before been practical.
